Looks like the road rage hasn’t cooled down quite yet! Lee Sung-jin’s critically acclaimed Netflix anthology series BEEF (성난 사람들) roared back for Season 2 and drove away with 3 wins at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14.
While it didn’t quite sweep the board like its legendary predecessor in 2024 (which bagged a massive 8 trophies), Season 2 still proved it’s got plenty of fuel left in the tank.
The Emmy Haul & Star-Studded Cast
Though top honors like Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series went to DTF St. Louis, and stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan narrowly missed out on their lead acting categories, BEEF Season 2 still dominated behind the scenes. Out of 14 categories and 16 nominations, the show clinched victories in:
- Outstanding Sound Editing
- Outstanding Sound Mixing
- Outstanding Costumes
For those who haven’t binged it yet, Season 2 shifts gears to a wealthy country club, following a chaotic clash between a billionaire new chairman, a general manager’s couple, and a staff couple as they exploit and infuriate each other.
The season also treated fans to massive star power, featuring Youn Yuh-jung as the powerhouse billionaire Chairperson Park and a special appearance by Song Kang-ho. Plus, with major plotlines shifting to Korea in the latter half of the season, it gave global fans an extra layer of juicy drama to obsess over!
Meanwhile, Across the Emmy Landscape…
The rest of the Emmy stage saw some history-making moments:
- The Big Winner: Apple TV+ horror-comedy Widows’ Bay absolutely cleaned house, sweeping 14 categories including Comedy Series, Directing, Writing, and Lead Actor.
- Making History: Matthew Rhys pulled off an insane feat by winning Lead Actor for both Widows’ Bay and The Beast in Me, making him the first actor ever to win two Lead Actor Emmys in the same year—and the first to win Lead Actor across all three genres tracked by the Emmys!
- A Legend Honored: Beloved icon Michael J. Fox (Back to the Future, The Good Wife) took the stage to accept the prestigious Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, celebrating his decades-long career and relentless advocacy and acting work following his Parkinson’s diagnosis at age 29.
Whether it’s road rage dramas or heartwarming Hollywood comebacks, this year’s Emmys certainly gave us plenty to talk about!
